The Mountain View United Methodist Women have been busy fulfilling the goals of its organization. We would like to share what we have been doing and what is ahead for us. First, let us say that we appreciate the support of this congregation. Without you, we would not be able to do the things we do.
We began this year by giving away a few thousand dollars to support our mission emphasis on women, children, and youth. From dollars earned in 2017, we supported the following ministries:
- Rural Mission; John’s Island, SC $1,080
- Willow Mission; Willow, Alaska $1,000
- Free Medical Clinic of America; Dr. Kim $500
- Remote Area Medical; RAM $500
- UMCOR; Puerto Rico Relief $500
- Crochet for Cancer $300
- Susannah’s House $275
- Random Acts of Flowers $200
- Total $4,355
We also supply the yarn for the prayer shawls that are available to the congregation. Last year, we contributed $191 to this ministry. If you need a prayer shawl for a loved one or friend, see Ruth Lawson or another UMW member.
With help from this generous congregation, we raised $810 dollars for world hunger by sponsoring an OxFam Hunger Banquet. We provided free dinner and a powerful, informative program detailing hunger in our world.
Our goal for this year is to continue to support deserving missions and ministries, worldwide, nationally, and locally. Our first fundraiser this year is our annual Garage Sale (March 24, 2018)
Again, we thank you for your continued support of UMW and encourage all women of the church to join us for our monthly meetings, the third Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the Joy classroom.
UMW Garage Sale - March 24
Please bring items any time during the week prior to the sale. The earlier the better! If you need storage for items now, we have limited space. See any UMW member.
We could use help setting up tables, unpacking and sorting items, arranging and folding, pricing and selling. Please see Margaret Denney if you are willing to help with any of these tasks.
Our UMW has been serving lunch on the second day of Jubilation, an older adult gathering sponsored by the Holston Conference, for 3 years. If you would like to go to Pigeon Forge and help us serve, talk to any UMW member.
Harvest Meal & Bake Sale
For the past 2 years, our UMW has teamed with Barb Casler to help prepare and serve the annual Thanksgiving meal. We set up for the guests, help prepare the food and serve and clean up. We also have our annual bake sale and auction during the dinner. If you would like to help in this endeavor by working or providing baked goods, contact any UMW member.
