Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. ~ 1 Timothy 4:12
At Mountain View, we know the youth are the future of the Church. We take our commitment to nurture these young men and women in their relationship with God seriously, providing the tools and information they need to grow in their faith, their commitment to Christ, in their personal lives, and in service to their community.
All MVUMC Youth Ministries programs are open to any student in Grades 6-12.
Mountain View’s youth leaders are active adult members of our church (as well as parents) and have successfully completed the Safe Sanctuaries training. Mountain View is a Safe Sanctuaries church. Youth programs are primarily funded through annual budget allowance and designated contributions by church members, and may also be supplemented by special fundraising activities when needed. For more information, contact Valerie Ohle.
Youth Bible Study meets every Sunday morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. (immediately following Sunday Service). Students explore the Bible with opportunities for discussion, questions, and activities to reinforce what they’re learning. In addition to their study of God’s Word, Youth Bible Study students participate in service projects such as growing a container vegetable garden to feed the hungry, and are provided with information and opportunities for fellowship outside the Church (retreats, conferences and camps). Additionally, the Youth Bible Study program serves as MVUMC’s crucible for preparing students for Confirmation, and as continuing education for those students who have successfully completed Confirmation.
The River is an arts-based youth program that meets alternating Sundays from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and is open to all middle and high school age youth regardless of denomination or religious beliefs. We to guide you through using your favorite art forms to explore, interpret and communicate God’s Word, your view of the world around you, and to teach you how to develop and use a strong but positive “voice”, both in your individual projects and in bettering your community through positive social action opportunities that you choose as a group or individually. And, whenever we can, we make sure you have the opportunity to exhibit or perform your projects at appropriate events and venues.
Trustees In Training
Trustees In Training is our newest youth program. Through the program, youth will learn valuable life skills as well as how to care for and maintain church properties, all under the careful tutelage and mentoring of our Senior Trustees. If you have a student who’s always wanted to learn more about how to build, paint, or fix things, Trustees In Training is just the ticket.
Camp Wesley Woods is partnering with Mountain View UMC to provide a free day-camp where children and youth in the community can learn and grow. We have organized activities throughout the week including recreation, games, crafts, story time, and much more. Participants will be placed into small groups and will be well supervised. We will use Safe Sanctuary regulations to ensure your child’s safety. Camp Wesley Woods is an ACA accredited camp.
Youth age 15-18 may apply to serve as Junior Leaders for the camp. Those interested should contact Valerie Ohle.
